End of Year Blog
Hi!
So I thought I’d put a little virtual pen to paper and write a little note as lots has happened this year and xmas is looming and, well, who doesn’t like a good old fashion bloggin’ from time to time eh?
Almost an exact year since we started the ball rolling with this whole Kosciuszko album when we gave “Lost My Nerve” Triple J and did a small tour we found ourselves having just completed our last tour for the album and sitting in the very back corner, as far from the stage as was humanly possible, at the ARIA awards. If we were the “primadona” types we might have viewed this seating allocation as some kind of disrespectful snub but it was actually for the best in the end. The very far back corner provided the perfect location for our rowdy celebrations. Talk was loud and drinks were spilled far away from the disapproving glare of the industry elite while the massive screens broadcasting the event meant we were able to tune in if anything interesting happened, like Front End Loader winning their award and getting the Doctor to read out a very amusing acceptance speech. We certainly were more than happy to be there and to be nominated for the first time in the rock category, particularly for a record which was paid for with our own money and produced ourselves, (with Dave Parkin) while we were unsigned and self managed.
A week after the ARIA’s we were back at Homebush again to play at the V8 Supercars and this just a few months after playing the same stadium for the rugby state of origin! It really has been a year of unexpected firsts! It got me to thinking about how we had become a sports band but then I remembered we have been for some time. In 2002 Damien Martyn scored a much needed century in a cricket one dayer for Australia with a Jebediah sticker on his bat. It’s nice to know we have played a small part in sporting history over the years. These facts may not go down in the official record books so they will be lost to history forever but we will remember and that’s enough for me!
So I suppose it is with a slight tinge of sadness that I write this blog and let everyone know that our touring for this album is very nearly over. We will be playing one more show in Sydney at Selina’s in Coogee at the Coogee Bay Hotel on December 29th (tickets here) and then ringing in the new year at the Espy in St Kilda, Melbourne on December 31st (tickets here). We shall also be at the Breath of Life Festival in Launceston, Tasmania on March 11th.
Then we shall all go back to our previous lives, sailing yachts around the Caribbean drinking champagne with rap stars.
Before I go there are a couple of end of year album polls that if you feel so inclined to vote in you might want to consider our album for. The main one of course is the Triple J album poll (click here to vote).
If you are feeling really generous you could also vote for us in the Mess & Noise album poll. We have no chance of getting in there but just the knowledge that we are even listed at all and the annoyance your vote will bring to hundreds of hipsters out there is enough to give me a festive glow! (click here to vote)
Alright folks, that’s all from me for now. Thanks to everyone who has come out to watch us play this year and bought Kosciuszko and supported us throughout. We are truly grateful and I hope you have been able to enjoy our little success stories along with us this year.
Wishing you all a safe and merry festive season,
Kev & Team Jeb
