HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
So where were you when midnight struck on New Year’s Eve? The merry gang of
Jebediah were somewhere between Phillip Island and Melbourne, their hire car
hastily pulled over to the side of the highway, the stereo turned up,
jumping around like a pack of fools. Actually, come to think of it I can’t
really remember exactly what we were doing. We had walked off stage at
Pyramid Rock just a couple of hours earlier, triumphant in our return to the
festival stage after many years in the rock and roll wilderness. We still
had it, damn it and we were going to prove it by drinking all of our rider,
(because that’s what one does when one wishes to prove one’s rock and roll
vitality!)
Earlier still, (I seem to be writing this blog backwards. It’s like a
Tarantino movie), we had watched Built to Spill play in the afternoon sun,
commenting on the burnt calves of the crowd lined up against the barrier. A
short time later, after their set, I would spy the whole band back stage
walking along in perfect single file, (their singer leading them), and all
of them with a kebab in their hands. For some reason, it all seemed
strangely fitting.
Anyway, just as nightfall descended upon the giant rock that is Phillip
Island, it was our time to shine. Unfortunately, perhaps due to the
excitement of the occasion, I am unable to remember anything specifically
about the hour long show we put on but I’ve got a pretty strong hunch that
it was possibly the greatest hour of live music ever performed in the
history of mankind I do know for certain that we played a bunch of songs
from all of our records as well as three new songs, two of which will appear
on Kosciuszko.
Soon afterwards the decision was made to drive to Melbourne and miss any
traffic that might be about, after all, who drives between 11pm and 1am on
New Years Eve? That’s right, we do!
And we did!
Thus necessitating the impromptu New Years Eve party on the side of the
highway between Phillip Island and Melbourne. I can remember much wishing
of a happy new year amongst us all, some dancing and jumping about and the
odd roadside ablution.
Yes, so New Years Eve, as is often the case for the working musician, was a
mixture of intense joy followed by a disconnected and underwhelming feeling.
We had seven days to prepare for our first show in Tasmania in half a
decade, which is five years but sounds longer when you use the word decade.
The show was the Soundscape Festival in the picturesque town of Hobart. We
were on stage rather early, 1.10pm to be exact, which requires a slightly
different mind-set. It’s like an afternoon BBQ compared to an evening house
party, (okay, I haven’t really thought this analogy through but stick with
me here). The afternoon BBQ is still a party but it’s the middle of the
day. There is definitely room to get zany on a few too many white wine
spritzers but there is also the unavoidable realisation that when the BBQ is
over, people who want to keep partying will do so somewhere else and with
other people. Some people might just skip the BBQ altogether. However the
BBQ has lots of meat....and so ends a rather dodgy analogy.
Anyhoo, we have a grand ol’ time on stage and enjoy being able to play to
the good folk of Tasmania again....we promise we will be back again soon!
Well that pretty much wraps up the good ol’ tour diary. Now as many of you
know, Triple J’s Hottest 100 is on again and the window to vote has almost
closed. If you could spare a thought for “Lost My Nerve” we will love you
long time. In fact, if you email evidence of your voting for us to
info@jebediah.net you will go in to the running for an amazing Jebs prize
pack, consisting of all sorts of rare and awesome items.

For those of you who have already voted for us, thank you! Competition for
these things is always fierce so who knows what will happen but regardless
of whether we make it in or not, we really appreciate your support!
That’s everything for now I think but stay tuned for lots of stuff coming
up! A new single and video will see the light of day soon, as well as more
show announcements and lots more leading up to the release of Kosciuszko in
April!
Cheers!

Ahhh, I remember NYE well. I was revelling in the fact that I had just seen Jeb perform live at Pyramid Rock from the front row with 15,000 people absolutely losing their minds over Jeb's come back gig. Keep up the crowd surfing Kev! Well done, love your work. Looking forward to Kosciuszko.

I think the movie you might be thinking of is (that masterpiece!) Memento. And that was Chris Nolan directing, not Tarantino. All that aside ... HAPPY NEW YEAR even though it's already the 16th.
